Step into a live moment of student making, where process is part of the work.
University of Melbourne students have spent the semester testing ideas through movement, material and collaboration – with their art brought into the open at MPavilion Parkville.
Encounter new artistic works emerging under the guidance of artist Laura Banfield. Working across performance, sculpture and video, Laura explores the entanglement of material and bodies through choreography, materials, and iterative experimentation.
Drawing on her practice, Laura led a series of creative development workshops in the George Paton Gallery Arts Lab. The students have worked with Laura and the George Paton Gallery team to create artworks shaped through shared making, iteration and exchange. Students have been thinking through sound, gesture and physical activation as they experiment with materials and tactility toward the creation of 'body sculptures'.
These works and accompanying movement practices will be presented 19–21 May, making practice public.
This project is presented through a collaboration between MPavilion Parkville and the George Paton Gallery.
