The Indigenous Visions forum was a daily programme of conversations and performances organized for April 16th, 2024, in parallel to the opening days of the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. The forum was led by BLAK C.O.R.E. (Care of Radical Energy) Museums and Collections, University of Melbourne, in collaboration with Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. The forum was an opportunity to support and focus Indigenous global thought on culture, art and how its powerful presence is very central to creative practices.
The forum centred on the participation of global Indigenous peers including Kimberley Moulton, Katy’taya Catitu Tayassu, Léuli Eshrāghi, Wanda Nanibush, Nicholas Galanin, Rushdi Anwar, Megan TamatiQuennell, Ahmed Umar, Denilson Baniwa, Paschal Daantos Berry and Pedro Wonaeamirri. The forum was curated by Professor Brook Andrew; initiated through conversation and ideas between Stephanie Rosenthal, Simon Mordant and Rose Hiscock and participants of the forum.
Indigenous Visions aimed to share and give space and support Indigenous practitioners, supporters, and communities to globally vocalise their importance amongst the wider artworld, impact on humanity and the natural and spiritual environments. The forum was empowered through grassroot networks to museum and gallery institutions, and allowed existing and new relationships to empower leadership, understanding and sharing of Indigenous ways of being.
BLAK C.O.R.E. Museums and Collections, and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi strive to centre Indigenous and First Peoples cultures and perspectives in their visions, collaborating with international partners, artists, communities, and curators to vocalise and testify to the power of Indigenous cultures as a central part of global art and life.
