Godfrey Howitt Entomology Collection

Godfrey Howitt (1800-73), physician and natural scientist, emigrated to Melbourne from England in 1839-40. His official roles in the colony included serving on the Council of the University of Melbourne and on the Medical School Committee.  He was recognised as a botanist and entomologist, and bequeathed to the University £1,000 for scholarships in botany, geology and zoology, his books on botany and entomology and his entomological collection, which the University placed on loan with Museum Victoria.
