The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology cultural collections (FEIT) comprise the Mechanical Engineering Collection (which includes the A.G.M Michell Engineering Collection); the Electrical Engineering Education Collection; Surveying and Geomatics Engineering Collection; and the Computing & Information Systems Collection. The School is currently creating a unified collection database for the distributed FEIT cultural collections.
5.1 Research and Curatorial Assistant – Displays at Melbourne Connect (two positions) (PROJECT ASSIGNED)
This project involves assisting in the development and documentation of stories, objects and media from the FEIT cultural collections which will feature in a series of display cases to be located in the Melbourne School of Engineering’s new spaces within the Melbourne Connect innovation precinct. The displays will highlight FEIT’s history of innovation, current research and community collaborations.

5.2 Research and Curatorial project - Biomedical Engineering
This project involves completing research to identify and acquire items that document current biomedical engineering projects at the University. This research will subsequently be used in the development of a display on campus that explores different aspects of biomedical engineering.
5.3 Documentation and Research Assistant – Engineer’s Revue
This project involves documenting, researching and analysing the cultural significance of a small archive of recently identified materials which include programs, scripts and production details that relate to the Engineer’s Revue. Encompassing productions that date from 1965-1973 the find is significant, as it includes materials from esteemed Australian playwright and screenwriter David Williamson (then an Engineering student at the School). This project will increase our knowledge and understanding of the archive’s significance to the University and will contribute to increasing public awareness of the collection, aid in its interpretation and help inform plans for its long-term management.
5.4 Documentation and rehousing project, Engineering Student life in the 1960s
This project involves documenting, scanning and housing a collection of 500 photographs taken by Paul Mosig (1943-2017) that capture Engineering student life on the UoM campus in the 1960s. There is potential to prepare an interpretive essay on the collection and to develop an exhibition proposal. This project will contribute to increased public awareness of the collection, aid in its interpretation and help inform plans for its long-term management.
5.5 Catalogue Assistant - FEIT Cultural Collections database (two positions)
The FEIT cultural collections are currently managed in several spreadsheets and databases, and the primary goal of this position will be to assist in the enhancement of the management of that data into a unified collection database. This project work will include reviewing, updating and expanding existing catalogue entries across the various platform types into the one system. In addition to cataloguing, this project will involve the researching and documentation of significant individuals and teams and this new content will be added to the EMu catalogue. These new and enhanced records will eventually be accessible to the public through the Collection’s website.
