In focus – Museums and Collections Projects Program
Susannah Britt, a Masters of Art Curatorship student, has recently completed a project placement at University House. Her project brief was to curate a themed exhibition for the refurbished Main Dining Room using the University’s cultural collections as its focus.
For Susannah, keen to progress her curatorial practice through a project that had real value to the University, the exhibition provided the ideal opportunity for professional development. It also encouraged great collaboration between academics and professional staff from across the University. Susannah recently commented:
[The project] was a richly rewarding and enlightening experience. I was given autonomy to research and curate the exhibition and at the same time, provided with wonderful support and guidance from experts around me, especially my supervisor. The project complemented and enhanced my studies. I was able to apply what I had learnt from my time at Melbourne University, in a real-world setting, and it cemented my passion and commitment to pursuing a curatorial career.
The resultant photographic exhibition showcases selected objects from the Ed Muirhead Physics Museum and represents key areas of scientific investigation undertaken by the School of Physics. The photographs capture the beauty, craftsmanship and ingenuity of a selection of objects from the collection and celebrate the significant contribution the School of Physics has made within the field.
