Come Write Here
What makes a place feel like a sanctuary, especially when the city around it is changing?
Across three days, artists Chris Parkinson and Sabina Andron invite you into Come Write Here, a live, evolving artwork at MPavilion Parkville.
Set against the backdrop of nearby construction, the project turns the pavilion into a shared creative space where visitors can unknot ideas of public space, and consider how images, street markings, posters, graffiti and traces of removal shape the way we experience the city.
Drop in to meet the artists, watch the work develop, and add your own voice to a collectively-authored noticeboard. You can also book into a free one-hour workshop led by participating artists Aisyah Kirana or Two Halves As a Whole and a durational painting performance by Timorese artist, Alfeo Pereira. No experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to make, write, notice and contribute.

About
MPavilion Parkville is the University of Melbourne’s open-air space for art, ideas and experimentation. Visit University Square for workshops, pop-ups, installations and unexpected encounters throughout the semester.
Presenters
Dr Sabina Andron, Lead Artist
Dr Sabina Andron is a DECRA Research Fellow at the Melbourne Centre for Cities. She has been researching images in cities for many years, and is currently working on street posters, graffiti removal, and urban surface maintenance in Melbourne, Australia, and urban visual heritage in Kampala, Uganda.
Dr Chris Parkinson, Lead Artist
Dr Chris Parkinson is an artist and lecturer at the University of Melbourne. His research and writing is concerned with the production of urban space through collaborative and collective art practices and urban surfaces. Creatively, he uses photographic processes and concepts to remix the surface gestures of urban environments, creating concepts indebted to seriality and abstraction, rhythm and affect. He is currently working on topics related to street posters, graffiti and Southeast Asian art collectivism.
Aisyah Kirana
Aisyah Kirana is an interdisciplinary artist working between body, object, space, improvisation, and collective experience. Her practice moves intuitively across object-based performance, small sculpture, mixed media, sounds, and projection. She often works with found everyday objects and materials inviting audiences into shared meaning-making. Her work creates shifting, open-ended situations where audience, object, and environment co-shape the experience. Her practice embraces uncertainty, humour, and ritual as ways of staying in relation with others, and the act of making itself.
2 Halves as A Whole
2 Halves as A Whole is the collaborative practice of artists Paige Templeton (she/her) and Ali Bagnato (they/them). The duo formed in 2022 after bonding over a shared passion for maximalist aesthetics, digital culture, and the absurdist humour that defines Gen Z. Since then, their practice has evolved into a multidisciplinary, satirical, and critically engaged body of work.Working across painting, digital media, assemblage, soft sculpture, performance, and installation, 2 Halves as A Whole interrogates contemporary social trends through a distinctly queer lens. Their work explores themes of consumerism, commodification, and aestheticisation, often engaging playfully with internet ephemera and early-2000s visualnformed by their identities as female and trans artists, their practice is grounded in lived experience and sustained by a critical interest in disrupting normative cultural frameworks.A central tenet of their practice is collaboration. Every work is co-authored through continual dialogue, experimentation, and mutual critique. This collaborative methodology allows them to expand beyond individual perspectives, challenge one another conceptually, and remain grounded in the belief that art-making is inherently social.
Alfeo Pereira
Alfeo Sanches Perreira is a multidisciplinary Timorese visual artist. Trained at the Arte Moris art school in Dili (2004–2010), Alfe emerged as part of a generation of artists shaped by the early years of Timor-Leste’s Independence. Alfe’s artistic trajectory is closely interwoven with social justice movements in Timor-Leste and his work is deeply rooted in the aesthetics of resistance, reflecting the country’s ongoing reckoning with 500 years of colonisation, occupation, and foreign intervention. Alfe’s practice has been presented across Asia and Europe and he has coordinated exciting collective works for local and international events and festivals. Selected as Artist Assistant to Maria Madeira’s Kiss and Don’t Tell, Alfe participated in Timor-Leste’s historic debut at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024. In 2025, he was appointed as the first Timorese artist-in-residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, further developing his practice within a global context.
